Toschi Nocello Nut Liqueur 700ml
Description
Italy’s Toschi family brings their confectionery expertise to the spirits world with Nocello, a walnut liqueur that captures the essence of fresh-picked nuts in liquid form. This distinctive liqueur represents a nearly lost tradition of nut-based spirits, using green walnuts harvested at the perfect moment when their flavor is most intense. The result is a liqueur of remarkable complexity that offers flavors found nowhere else in the spirits world, combining sweetness, bitterness, and nutty richness.
Dark amber bordering on mahogany, Nocello’s color comes naturally from walnut extraction. The nose is immediately intriguing—intense walnut aromas dominate but with unexpected complexity. Fresh green walnut provides almost medicinal, herbal notes, while toasted nut characteristics add warmth. Vanilla and caramel sweetness balance the natural bitterness, while subtle spices like cinnamon and clove add depth. The aroma is both familiar and exotic, promising unique flavors.
Tasting Nocello reveals why walnut liqueur deserves recognition. Initial sweetness quickly gives way to complex walnut flavor that’s both bitter and sweet—think walnut meat with its slightly tannic skin included. The green walnut contributes herbal, almost tea-like qualities that add sophistication. Mid-palate brings notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and subtle wood that complement the nut character. The balance between sweet and bitter is masterfully achieved, creating a liqueur that’s never cloying.
The finish is long and warming, with walnut bitterness providing a pleasant, digestif-like conclusion. Nocello excels neat as an after-dinner drink, over ice with a twist of lemon, or in creative cocktails where its unique flavor can add unexpected depth. This distinctive liqueur offers flavors impossible to replicate, making it an essential addition for adventurous drinkers seeking authentic Italian liqueur traditions.
