Saint Cosme Saint-joseph 2021 750ml
Description
The 2021 vintage brings a more delicate expression to Saint Cosme’s Saint-Joseph, where cooler conditions have emphasized aromatic complexity and finesse. This wine showcases Barruol’s ability to adapt his winemaking to vintage conditions while maintaining quality.
The wine opens with bright, lifted aromas of red and black berries, accompanied by pronounced floral notes and white pepper. The cooler vintage has created a more perfumed style that highlights Saint-Joseph’s potential for elegance. As it develops, notes of herbs, graphite, and that distinctive granite minerality emerge. The palate delivers precision rather than power; fine-grained tannins support fresh fruit flavors, while energetic acidity creates a wine of real vitality. The finish extends with red fruits and mineral notes.
This 2021 demonstrates that Northern Rh?ne Syrah doesn’t always require massive concentration to be compelling. Barruol’s gentle handling has preserved the vintage’s natural freshness while extracting complexity from the granite soils. The result is a Saint-Joseph of unusual refinement – perfect for those who appreciate subtlety in their Syrah or for pairing with lighter dishes where bigger wines might overwhelm.
