The barrel proof presentation delivers maximum flavor impact, appealing to enthusiasts who want to experience rye whiskey in its purest, most intense form. The single barrel selection process involves careful evaluation of maturing stocks to identify barrels showing exceptional character. Each chosen barrel represents a unique interaction between spirit, wood, and time, influenced by its specific warehouse location and environmental conditions. The 95% rye mash bill provides consistent foundation, but barrel variation creates distinct profiles – some might emphasize spice, others showcase fruit or oak influence more prominently. This variation is celebrated rather than standardized through blending. At barrel proof, typically ranging from 110-120+, the intensity is remarkable. The nose requires cautious approach initially, revealing concentrated rye spice, dark fruit, and pronounced oak influence once alcohol vapors dissipate. Adding water opens up hidden complexity – chocolate, leather, tobacco, and surprising floral notes might emerge. On the palate, the high proof delivers explosive flavor, with rye spice balanced by intense sweetness from concentrated oak extraction. The texture is viscous and coating, while the finish seems endless. This single barrel, barrel proof format represents whiskey appreciation at its most serious, offering connoisseurs the opportunity to experience rye at full strength. Each bottle provides a unique tasting experience while maintaining New Riff’s quality standards. For collectors, different barrels offer comparative tasting opportunities. For cocktail enthusiasts, the high proof means exceptional drinks that maintain character despite dilution. This bottle demonstrates New Riff’s confidence in their whiskey – only exceptional base spirit can stand up to barrel proof presentation.
