Muga Rose Rioja 2022 750ml
Description
Muga’s rosé represents the pinnacle of traditional Rioja rosado production, crafted with the same meticulous attention to detail that defines all wines from this iconic bodega. The 2022 vintage showcases Garnacha, Viura, and Tempranillo in perfect harmony, creating a rosé of uncommon elegance and complexity that transcends seasonal drinking.
The wine displays a beautiful pale pink color with subtle copper reflections, achieved through the traditional sangrado method. On the nose, it offers remarkable complexity for a rosé—fresh strawberries and raspberries mingle with white flowers, particularly rose petals and orange blossom. Citrus notes of pink grapefruit and blood orange add brightness, while subtle hints of white pepper, fresh herbs, and wet stones provide depth. There’s a distinctive elegance that immediately identifies this as Muga.
The palate reveals why Muga’s rosé has achieved cult status among Spanish wine lovers. The texture is silky and refined, with more body than typical rosé yet maintaining essential freshness. Red fruit flavors dominate initially—wild strawberries, redcurrants, and watermelon—but quickly give way to complex citrus and mineral notes. The blend creates perfect balance, with Garnacha providing fruit and body, Viura adding freshness, and Tempranillo contributing structure. The finish brings a subtle tannic grip that enhances food compatibility.
What elevates this rosé is Muga’s refusal to compromise on quality regardless of wine style. The same attention to vineyard selection, gentle handling, and precise winemaking that goes into their legendary reds is evident here. The result is a rosé that drinks beautifully as an aperitif yet has the structure and complexity to pair with substantial dishes. The finish is long and refreshing, with fruit and mineral notes that invite another sip. This is rosé for all seasons, equally at home at summer gatherings or winter dinners. A benchmark for serious rosé production in Spain.
