Marques De Riscal Rioja 2018 750ml
Description
Marqués de Riscal’s classic Reserva continues to serve as many wine lovers’ introduction to quality Rioja, maintaining the distinctive house style that has made this one of Spain’s most recognized wines globally. The 2018 vintage showcases the famous wire mesh bottle containing a wine that balances tradition with subtle modern touches.
The wine displays a deep cherry-red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers the distinctive Marqués de Riscal character—a combination of ripe red fruits, particularly cherry and raspberry, with the pronounced influence of American oak adding vanilla, coconut, and sweet spices. What sets Riscal apart is a distinctive herbal, almost medicinal note that has become their signature. Leather, tobacco, and dried herbs add complexity, while a hint of minerality provides depth.
The palate delivers the smooth, approachable style that has made Marqués de Riscal a global success. Medium-bodied with soft, well-integrated tannins, the wine emphasizes drinkability over power. Red fruit flavors dominate, wrapped in creamy vanilla and spice notes from the American oak aging. The distinctive house character comes through in subtle herbal and balsamic notes that add complexity. Fresh acidity keeps everything balanced and food-friendly, preventing any sense of heaviness.
The 2018 Marqués de Riscal succeeds through consistency and accessibility. This is classical Rioja designed for immediate enjoyment, offering authentic regional character without requiring cellaring or contemplation. The finish is smooth and persistent, with fruit and spice notes lingering pleasantly. The iconic packaging makes it a popular gift choice, while the wine inside delivers reliable quality. Perfect with traditional Spanish cuisine or international dishes, this remains one of Rioja’s most successful ambassadors worldwide.
