Fuenteseca 18 Year 2003 Extra Anejo Tequila 750ml
Description
Fuenteseca 18 Year 2003 represents a more recent approach to extreme aging, where modern production techniques meet extended maturation. Master distiller Enrique Fonseca’s selection of 2003 barrels showcases how different years and production methods create unique expressions even at similar age statements. This bottling demonstrates evolution in both tequila making and aging philosophy.
The near-black color promises extreme complexity, delivered through an intensely layered nose. While sharing the depth of other 18-year expressions, the 2003 shows its own character—perhaps more refined production created cleaner base spirit that aged differently. Dark chocolate, leather, and tobacco remain dominant, but with brighter notes of orange liqueur and exotic spices. The modern vintage adds clarity to the complexity.
On the palate, the 2003 vintage reveals how production evolution affects extreme aging. While impossibly smooth like its predecessors, flavors show more definition—dark caramel, espresso, and dried fruit remain distinct rather than fully melded. The 18 years have created remarkable complexity while maintaining more recognizable tequila character than older vintages. Notes of dark honey, baking spices, and subtle smoke create layers of interest. The finish is extraordinarily long, with the 2003 character adding a slightly brighter, more lifted quality to the eternal fade. This expression shows how extreme aging continues to evolve.
