Bulleit 95 12 Year Rye Whiskey 750ml
Description
Reach the pinnacle of Bulleit’s rye program with their limited 12 Year expression, where patient maturation pushes their extreme 95% rye mash bill into rarefied territory. This premium release represents the sweet spot where rye intensity meets oak influence in perfect harmony, creating a whiskey that satisfies both rye purists and those who appreciate aged whiskey complexity. For collectors and connoisseurs seeking American rye at its finest, this dozen-year expression delivers exceptional sophistication.
The additional two years beyond the 10-year mark might seem incremental, but in whiskey aging, those final years often bring the most dramatic changes. The 95% rye mash bill that defines Bulleit’s rye program reaches full maturity at 12 years, with the aggressive spice fully integrated with deep oak character. The angel’s share—whiskey lost to evaporation—concentrates flavors in the remaining liquid, while extended wood contact adds layers of vanilla, caramel, and exotic spices. Careful barrel selection ensures only those showing optimal balance make it into this limited release, creating consistency within the natural variation of single barrels.
In the glass, 12 Year Rye showcases what happens when time perfects an already excellent whiskey. The color alone impresses—deep amber suggesting serious oak influence. The nose offers immediate complexity: evolved rye spice mingles with leather, dark fruit, and antique wood polish. On the palate, silk-smooth texture delivers waves of integrated flavors. The 95% rye content still makes its presence known through cinnamon, black pepper, and herbs, but these notes now dance with oak-derived richness. Dark chocolate, fig jam, and orange liqueur notes emerge mid-palate, while hints of pipe tobacco and worn leather add gravitas. The finish seems endless, oscillating between sweet oak vanillins and persistent rye spice, with echoes of mint and dried herbs appearing in waves. This is special occasion rye, demanding neat presentation in proper glassware to fully appreciate its evolution from grain to masterpiece. Each sip reveals new facets, making a single pour last an entire evening.
