Big Gin Peat Barreled Dry Gin 750ml
Description
Big Gin Peat Barreled pushes the boundaries of gin innovation by aging their London dry gin in barrels that previously held peated Scotch whisky. This daring expression from Seattle’s Captive Spirits creates an unprecedented fusion of gin botanicals and smoky Islay influence, challenging everything we think we know about gin.
The journey begins with Big Gin’s juniper-forward London dry recipe, already bold and botanical-rich with Pacific Northwest character. The gin then enters barrels that once held heavily peated Scotch, where it absorbs not just color but the essence of peat smoke that has permeated the wood. The result is a gin that maintains its botanical integrity while gaining an entirely new dimension – imagine campfire smoke winding through a pine forest.
The sensory experience is unlike any other gin. The nose presents an intriguing paradox – bright juniper and citrus wrapped in whispers of smoke and sea spray. On the palate, the peat influence is subtle but unmistakable, adding earthy, smoky notes that complement rather than overwhelm the botanicals. The Douglas fir in Big Gin’s recipe seems to bridge the gap between gin and peat, creating harmony where you might expect discord. The finish is long and complex, with smoke and botanicals taking turns to shine.
This expression demands creative cocktail application. In a smoky martini, it adds complexity impossible to achieve any other way. Mixed with ginger beer, it creates a highball with mysterious depth. For adventurous drinkers who appreciate both gin and peated whisky, Big Gin Peat Barreled offers a unique crossover experience. It’s proof that sometimes the most unlikely combinations yield the most interesting results – a gin that honors tradition while fearlessly exploring new territory.
